Bellville opening bat Andru Serdyn hit a punchy 24 off 26 balls to help give the home side a useful start.

 

Keane Solomons added an enterprising 25 runs of his own, as Bellville began well from the outset with a 50-run opening stand at five to the over.

 

Duanne Grobler was just getting into his stride for Bellville after a rebuilding phase following the quick loss of both openers, when he fell lbw for 20.

 

Reeve Cyster played the role of cornerstone for the Bellville innings, producing a 78-ball knock of 54 that included just one boundary, but setting up a strong finishing platform for his side.

 

Bellville skipper Marcus Fourie also found the rope just once in his innings of 32, but helped add 81 for the fifth wicket with Reeve Cyster.

 

Legspinner Craig Jeffery picked up three wickets of his four wickets for Cape Town at the death, effectively countering Bellville’s finishing efforts in the last ten overs.

 

Used in short bursts throughout, opening bowler Jaden Rose responded by collecting a brace of scalps for Cape Town.

 

Losing three partners while at the crease, Cape Town skipper Tristan Coetzee was obliged to take a more measured approach than usual, but still hit four fours in his 26.

 

First-change seamer Evert Carstens struck twice in his first three overs to put the Cape Town run chase under immediate pressure with the loss of early wickets.

 

From a position of 45-4, Justin Gilliland quickly became the fulcrum around which the Cape Town innings had to build, as he anchored the rest of their efforts with his 57 from 92 balls.

 

Marcus Fourie’s left-arm spin dominated the middle period, taking 2-21 from his ten overs to leave Cape Town a massive task in the closing overs.

 

With 81 needed from the final ten overs, left-arm spinner Eddie Schutte quickly sealed the deal for Bellville by taking three for three in twelve deliveries.

 

Reeve Cyster followed up his earlier fifty with landing the killer blow by dismissing Justin Gilliland as the second of two scalps with his medium-pacers.
