UWC opening bat Nicholas Govender hit three fours and a six in his 34, but could not overcome his side’s rather pedestrian start.

Off-spinner Lukhanyo Metu had a good outing for Cape Town with the ball, picking up both visiting openers before claiming a third scalp in his second spell as well.

Medium-pacer Nathan Johnson made a crucial breakthrough for Cape Town in the middle overs, dismissing two key UWC batters in successive overs.

Allrounder Tyler Williams held the UWC lower middle order together, top-scoring with 35 as he marshalled a recovery of sorts from 78-5 to 167-7.

Cape Town’s English import Jaden Rose cleaned up the tail in quick order as he returned to the attack at the death, bagging an impressive 3-28 as a result.

Following his five earlier catches, Jamie Marillier at the top of the order maintained Cape Town’s advantage as they began their run chase, blazing six boundaries in a rapid 29 from 27 balls.

Cape Town skipper Tristan Coetzee hit boundaries off four consecutive balls in blazing his way to 27 from 19 balls, before attempting one big shot too many.

Cape Town’s Mr Dependable Mathew Goles brought an air of inevitability to the final outcome, hitting two sixes and four fours as he moved unstoppably to yet another half-century.

Josh Chippendale provided excellent initial support for Mathew Goles, striking five fours in his 34 as the pair all but put the game to bed by adding 64 together.

Hilio de Abreu then stayed to the end with Mathew Goles, scoring an undefeated 29 of his own as the pair knocked off the final 52 runs still needed for a comfortable victory.
