A devastating innings of clean hitting by Jordan Bowers was the difference between the sides, the Cape Town number three striking six sixes and three fours in a knock of 70 from 41 balls – where no-one else on either side reached 20.

United seamer Likhona Gixwala bowled a steady spell to suppress Cape Town during the middle overs, taking 2-15 in his four overs.

Off-spinner Fawaaz Gallie simultaneously eroded the Cape Town batting from the other end, bagging 3-16 to dominate the middle order.

The regular loss of wickets meant that United’s reply never got going – before three wickets in an over by left-arm spinner Michal Lord landed the killer blow for Cape Town.

Jordan Bowers followed up his earlier batting heroics with two wickets via his medium-pacers too, to complete a fine individual match.

The pace of Lifa Ntanzi was the final nail in United’s coffin, bagging two scalps of his own in the process as united were bowled out for 77.
