Rylands opening bowler Munowar Samsodien struck in both his second and third overs after Cape Town had elected to bat first, reducing the home side to 21-3 and putting his side on top from the outset – and would later return to clean up the tail too.
Mathew Goles was all that stood between Cape Town and complete disaster, batting from the game’s first over until the 43rd in scoring 86 while all others fell around him.
Justin Gilliland provided the only support for Mathew Goles in Cape Town’s innings, sharing a fourth-wicket stand of 72 with him while contributing 39 runs of his own to the cause.
Off-spinner Tom Newby finally broke Cape Town’s only partnership of note, and then picked up a second scalp as well as the home team’s middle order subsided.
Rylands first-change seamer Waseem Mukuddem bowled with control to take 1-15 from his first eight overs, and then returned to dismiss batting kingpin Mathew Goles too.
Chasing an average total, Rylands’ player-coach Mujahid Behardien’s blistering 66 from 61 balls quickly ensured that there could be only one winner.
Bonga Makaka was almost as aggressive in his 32 from 36 balls, helping Mujahid Behardien add 55 in just 7½ overs that gave Rylands an easy run-in to victory.
Left-arm spinner Michal Lord had just one bad over throughout it all, and was rewarded by picking up the wickets of both Rylands top-scorers.
Off-spinner Jade Schoeman had to endure some tough times over the past few weeks, but plugged away to now capture two wickets in an innings for the first time.
