Mathew Goles led the initial Cape Town recovery from 4-2, striking nine fours and a six in scoring 74 as he and Josh Chippendale took control of proceedings by adding 154 in 30 overs for Cape Town’s third wicket.

 

Josh Chippendale hit a maiden century for the Cape Town First XI, striking ten fours and a six in his 102 from 125 balls. In the process he helped Cape Town recover from 4-2 to 223-3, before falling.

 

Justin Gilliland built on the platform that the third wicket partnership afforded him, cracking ten fours in a rapid 61 from 55 balls.

 

WPCC’s provincial seamer Oliver Whitehead grabbed an early wicket and then struck twice more at the death, preventing Cape Town from reaching 300.

 

Storm van Rooyen added a useful quick 20 runs for Cape Town in the closing overs, nudging them to just shy of the 300-run mark.

 

WPCC number three Givon Christian hit a solid 57 from 79 balls to keep his side in the hunt after an early wicket, while adding 115 for the second wicket with Ben van der Merwe.

 

Opener Ben van der Merwe batted through until the 36th over to keep WPCC’s hopes alive, scoring 78 from 99 balls.

 

Craig Jeffery ran through the WPCC top order with his legbreaks once introduced into the attack, knocking over the remainder of their top five in six overs.

 

Oliver Whitehead followed up his earlier three wickets with a quickfire 30 from 19 balls, but was fighting a losing battle.

 

Ethan Currin shapes to reverse-sweep in his run-a-ball knock of 21 for WPCC at the death, but it was always going to be too little too late.

 

Opening bowler Jaden Rose returned at the death to clean up the last two WPCC wickets in an over, sealing a comfortable win on the road for Cape Town.
