Cape Town opening bowler Alex Draai turned the match on its head from the very outset, bagging four wickets in his first eight deliveries to reach 50 career wickets for Cape Town – en route to match figures of 5-15.

 

Wiann van der Merwe provided Rondebosch’s main resistance in fighting back from 25-6, scoring 27 with a six and three fours.

 

Craig Jeffery’s legbreaks picked up two late wickets in the Rondebosch innings, snuffing out the last pockets of organised resistance.

 

Cape Town skipper again provided the impetus at the top of his side’s innings, blazing a quickfire 20 from eleven balls to keep Cape Town in the driving seat.

 

Jamie Marillier also played his part in getting Cape Town off to a good start in pursuit of their moderate target, hitting two fours in scoring 19 off 25 balls.

 

Mathew Goles provided the other statistical highlight of the match, passing 5 000 career runs for the Cape Town First XI during his innings of 16.

 

Liam Oosthuizen’s medium-pacers almost set the cat amongst the pigeons by inducing two catches to extra cover in four balls, as Rondebosch defended to the end.
