Green Point opening bat Aaron Smit hit four fours in the first four overs of the match to give the home side a bright start at 43-1 after five overs, but then fell almost immediately thereafter.

Neil Eksteen then continued his run of early-season form for Green Point, holding the innings together until the halfway mark with a solid knock of 46.

Ultimately, however, it was Cape Town’s overseas player Jaden Rose who stole the first innings accolades, bagging a five-for on debut to bowl the home side out relatively cheaply.

Guy Sheena kept Green Point’s resistance going until last man out, striking two sixes and two fours in his 39.

Tristan Coetzee wasted no time at the top of the order wading into the Green Point bowling, smashing ten fours in a 34-ball fifty – en route to a dominant knock of 76 from just 56 balls faced.

Fellow Cape Town opening bat Jamie Marillier added a competent run-a-ball 38 of his own, as he and Tristan Coetzee set the visitors up perfectly by adding 117 for the first wicket in just 14 overs.

Green Point legspinner Guy Sheena threatened to turn the tide at the last moment though, claiming a five-for as he ran through the Cape Town middle order.

Ultimately Lukhanyo Metu stood firm for Cape Town, seeing them safely across the line with a valuable little unbeaten knock at the end.
