Durbanville opening bat Jean Strydom put his side on the front foot from the outset after being asked to bat first, striking two sixes and ten fours in scoring 76, as he put on 123 for the first wicket with his captain Fritz de Beer.
Durbanville skipper Fritz de Beer scored his second hundred of the season against Cape Town, batting right through to the penultimate over in scoring 105 from 130 balls to ensure a dominant total for his team.
Durbanville number three bat Eddie Moore arrived at the crease with a great platform from which to build, and he obliged with a quickfire 26, striking three fours as he helped add 57 in eleven overs for the second wicket with his captain.
Daniel Lategan then added the finishing touches to the Durbanville innings, striking four sixes in his 36 from 24 balls as he and Fritz de Beer added a further 62 in seven overs together.
In his first game of the season back for Cape Town, Jonathan Draai took some heavy tap in his final two overs – but picked up the wicket of Durbanville’s centurion as the second of his two scalps.
Justin Gilliland was the anchor that held the Cape Town innings together, scoring 76 from 89 balls as he rescued the home side from 12-2.
Elevated to the number three berth, Lukanyo Metu responded with a knock of 24 that included a 56-run stand for the third wicket with Justin Gilliland.
Durbanville’s Jersey leg-spinner Ben Ward undid the home team’s middle order with three wickets in his first six overs, before finishing with 4-37 from his ten-over quota.
Opening bowler Jody Lawrence bagged a brace of scalps for Durbanville, while conceding just 34 from his ten overs.
Alex Draai frustrated Durbanville’s aim of taking the maximum points haul from the match, hitting a Cape Town career-best 53 not out from 51 balls at the death to deny them the bonus point.
Daniel Lategan’s off-breaks took some punishment, but he also picked up the key Cape Town wicket and broke another threatening stand.
