Rain had the final say in this match, restricting the second day's play to a single delivery. With Cape Town having held a 68-run overall lead with seven second innings wickets still in hand going into the day's play, some may have felt that they were consequently robbed of a certain outright victory over a young Montrose side with a decidely fragile-looking batting line-up. However, although this may quite possibly have been true, the home side had in truth failed to dominate sufficiently on the first day to give such claims an indisputable ring of truth.
