Having lost the toss for the first time in the competition, Cape Town's insertion on their own home ground did not prevent them from again making a strong start as the first three overs brought 34 runs. Both opening batsmen fell almost immediately thereafter though, and less than an over apart, Bey popping up for the first time with a sharp direct hit to claim the second wicket. This left Shane Martin and Kirk Wernars (newly-returned from the Under-19 World Cup) needing to rebuild the momentum again, resulting in some comparatively slow going as Primrose managed the amazing feat of bowling two successive maiden overs. Martin then launched the counter-attack by hitting sixes off successive balls for two overs in a row, but it was rather too brief. He was castled immediately afterwards for 31 from 22 balls by left-arm spinner Faraaz Booley, who then added another scalp in his next over as well to leave the home side in some trouble at 88 for four with just seven overs remaining.
Having managed just ten runs from 20 balls faced at this point, Wernars then began picking up his pace in the company of his captain Jonathan Holgate, as the pair added a quick 37 together. Zahariya Kloppers then had Holgate caught on the boundary to pick up his second wicket, and although his three-over spell cost 38 runs (having started with a maiden wicket) as Wernars in particular took the attack to him, Bey's frugality at the other end in only conceding nine singles from his last two overs meant that Cape Town could manage only a modest 151 from their 20 overs.
Although in none of Cape Town's twelve previous AMA20/20 games had a team batting second managed to reach 150, hindsight would prove that their tally was some 25-30 runs short of being a competitive total. It did not initially look that way though, as both Primrose opening batsmen were dismissed cheaply within the first four overs. Saliem Toefy arrived at the crease in a combative mood though, and after his first ball faced had hit a fielder's helmet lying on the ground behind the keeper to concede five penalty extras, he then hit two of his next three balls for four to indicate early on that the home side had a fight on their hands.
This was quickly confirmed when Toefy waded into the back-up bowling in spectacular fashion to crack four sixes and seven balls, in the process screaming passed a 23-ball fifty to finish with 60 from 25 balls - while personally contributing 56 of the 67 runs added for the third wicket in less than seven overs. His dismissal on the long on boundary opened the way for two further wickets in the next three overs, but the newly-inspired momentum was never lost in the process. Cape Town's ship consequently rapidly took on water, as their hopes of victory were eroded to just 37 runs remaining to defend from the last six overs. That man Bey again swiftly crushed even that faint chance though. Having begun by hitting just his fourth ball faced for six, he alone smashed 19 runs off the 15th over to reduce Primrose's target to a simplistic 18 needed from five overs. Thus, although Wernars returned to grab a final wicket, the visitors duly wrapped up the win with 16 balls to spare.
For Bey the fairy tale ending to his perfect day did not quite happen though. Having blasted his way to 49 from 24 balls to tie the scores, he then pulled a beamer to the boundary - but was not credited with what would've been his fifth four (to go with three sixes) to take him to his fifty, because the obligatory no-balling of the delivery had already produced the winning runs.
