In as tight and exciting a finish as any that the game of cricket can produce, with just two deliveries left in the match any of the four possible results was still very much on the cards for either side. With Police still needing three runs to win from those two balls, with nine wickets down and their number eleven batsman facing, the stage was perfectly set for a cliffhanger finish. As events transpired, his subsequent heave successfully cleared the inner ring to drop safely into the deep extra cover outfield, allowing the batsmen to scramble home for the three runs needed that sealed a heart-stopping win for the home side.

In an almost carbon copy of their previous match against Almar, albeit with reversed fortunes this time around, it was Cape Town who had everyone clustered around the bat deep into the last hour, trying hard to capture the final wicket needed for victory. Unlike Almar though, they had just enough overs available to force the issue, and with just three minutes remaining Andre Olwagen found a way through Jaco Swart's stubborn defence to get the home side's Two-Day campaign underway with their first win of the season.

For the second time in two matches Cape Town's newly-appointed skipper Jonathan Holgate led from the front in truly remarkable fashion. Producing another determined innings of unrivalled application with the bat, he again personally took on the responsibility of being the cornerstone that held his side's batting efforts together, and allowed them to escape with an unlikely draw from what was a near-impossible situation.
