Cape Town skipper Tristan Coetzee took the fight to the Claremont bowlers after being asked to bat first, cracking nine fours in his 41 from 30 balls at the top of the order.
Jamie Marillier was the other half of a flying Cape Town start that propelled them to 65-0 inside the first nine overs, Marillier contributing 23 of those from 28 balls faced.
Once the visiting openers had been dismissed, Claremont skipper Josh Breed worked his way through the middle order with his leg breaks, bagging 4-30 to turn the match in the home team’s favour.
Claremont left-arm seamer Keegan Fortune then snapped up two wickets in his opening over, leaving his side in full control at 137-8.
Justin Gilliland stood firm for Cape Town despite the steady erosion of wickets at the other end, contributing a solid 42 in rallying the tail sufficiently to allow his side to reach 200.
Off-spinner Cedric Landers bowled a tight ten overs for Claremont, and picked up the wickets of Cape Town’s two top scorers.
After the quick loss of their opening pair, the Claremont innings was all about Daniel Smith’s blistering 126 not out from just 87 balls, striking six sixes and nine fours to make light work of their victory target of 201.
Claremont skipper Josh Breed was the other half of an unbroken 182-run third-wicket stand with Daniel Smith that swept the home team to victory with a full 20 overs to spare, Breed adding 53 off 63 balls in the process.
