The Cape Town First XI’s first-ever visit to the AW Mukuddem Oval in Gatesville, home of the newly-promoted Rylands Cricket Club, was again not a happy affair, resulting in another batting failure and a third consecutive league defeat.

Although Cape Town had made a decent start to their innings, the introduction of Munowar Samsodien to the attack in the 14th over quickly reversed that. The seamer bowled his ten overs on the trot for a return of 3-7, reducing the visitors to 44-5.

Cape Town skipper Geoff Dods battled hard to shore up his side’s failing batting, occupying the crease for 22 overs in grinding out 32 from 59 balls.

Rylands off-spinner Umar Anthony polished off the Cape Town tail with a return of 3-20, dooming the visitors to defending just 100 all out.

Although Cape Town picked up two relatively quick wickets in defence of their insufficient total, Taariq Chiecktey compiled a solid 47 with five boundaries to prevent the home side from ever losing control.
