Mathew Goles was one half of a very effective opening partnership for Cape Town after they had elected to bat first, ultimately top-scoring in the match with 48 from 49 balls before holing out on the boundary.
William Hantam struck a six and five fours in a brisk 39 from 31 balls at the top of the Cape Town order, adding 70 in 10½ overs with Mathew Goles and passing 2 000 career runs for the side in the process.
Milnerton left-arm spinner Zarin Hardenberg bowled tightly to pull things back a bit for his side after Cape Town’s bright start, taking two key wickets while conceding just 25 from his four overs.
Gareth Swardt fought a lone and fruitless battle at the top of the Milnerton order, compiling a boundaryless 22 in an hour while a procession of partners came and went at the other end.
In dire straits early on after slumping to 19-4 in pursuit of an already challenging target, Milnerton then collapsed entirely as Cape Town skipper Geoff Dods struck three times in the space of eight balls to reduce them to 48-7.
With the contest’s outcome effectively already long since determined, off-spinner Matthew Olsen quickly wrapped up win for Cape Town by snaring the final three wickets for himself in eight deliveries.
Cape Town secure their second bonus-point win of the new season’s opening day, having bowled Milnerton out for 74 to complete an almost perfect start to their 2018/19 season.
